Not just English constitution but near enough any country which wanted a fair rulership. It said that even King John was bound by the law. Before that what a King (or other ruler said) went, but this document said he could act illegally.
Magna Carta is famous for the biggest popular myth in English history - the "fact" that King John signed the document at Runnymede in 1215.
The truth is that no documents were ever signed at that time in English history - they were confirmed with the Great Royal Seal. John did not sign any of the 12 or more copies produced on that day, but he did have his seal applied to them all and they were distributed around the entire country. So John sealed Magna Carta, he did not sign it.
Only a few of those 12 or more copies have survived, not one of them bearing a signature.
It is of historic importance because for the first time a king could be over-ruled by his barons, if the terms of the charter were not adhered to. It effectively limited the powers of the king in a way that had never before happened.
it's important because it was the first document stating the rights of men.

The Magna Carta or Magna Carta Libertatum is also known as the Great Charter of Freedoms.
The Great Charter or 'Magna Carta' was forced on King John by the Barrons in 1215 . This limited his powers and granted that the privilages of the freemen would be upheld. Prior to this the powers of King John were only limited by the will of God. After the Magna Carta it was limited by Law.
