Lord of the flies should deffinetly be taught in schools. It is one of the greatest examples of symbolistic literature. People need to just except students are mature enough to read it and let it alone.

The boys on the island are fighting against one another and when the naval officer comes and thinks it's terrible what they're doing, he doesn't realise that they are just a small scale of whats happening in the world around them (the world is at war). One reason why the book is a classic is that its major premise, that beneath the thin veneer of civilaisation their lies dormant in all of us a primative beast, is still as true today as it was when he wrote the book.
