In my opinion, being a father, there are moments in the Omen that dig deeply into the viewer's core beliefs, regardless of what religious upbringing you had, society and the movies and television are our most frequent contact with religion in most cases, and so we all share many of the same core beliefs and principals.
When I watched the original Omen, I was deeply moved. For weeks after viewing it my thoughts turned to the different scenes and information that I saw on the film as they connected with my personal life.
The Exorcist effected me the same way, and I knew a number of people who allowed themselves to be SO deeply effected, that it took 'years' to come to any kind of perspective of these having been "movies" and meant to be thought provoking "entertainment". So as a father, I would not allow my kids to watch either of the films until they reached an age that they demonstrated the ability to separate fact from fiction and even then I took extra care to sit down and discuss both movies, and how they felt about what they saw.
