There could be many factors that make any river dangerous:
1. Dangerous creatures like alligators or carnivorous fish
2. People can drown in the river if it is deep enough and wide
3. The river can be too cold
4. There can be river currents or rapids
5. You can get dangled in water plants or sick from algae
