In book one of the "Odyssey," Athena disguises herself as Mentes, a family friend of Odysseus, in order to guide and assist Telemachus in finding information about his father's whereabouts.
Telemachus is upset that the suitors are eating him out of house and home as well as courting his mother.
She is there. Disguised as Mentor, who is a close friend to Odysseus. She guides him through everything.

The beginning of "The Odyssey" introduces the struggles of Odysseus trying to return home from the Trojan War, while the ending of Book 14 sees him finally reuniting with his son, Telemachus, after years of separation. The beginning sets the stage for Odysseus's journey, while the ending of Book 14 shows progress in his quest to return home and his reunion with loved ones.

He's really hospitable to Mentes (Athena) when she visits him in the first book. he welcomes her and feeds her, then offers her a place to stay and a gift to for her journey.
In Book 20 of the "Odyssey," Athena appears disguised as Mentor and encourages Odysseus by praising him for his strength and agility in the games. She also inspires him to win the respect and admiration of the onlookers, boosting his spirits for the challenges ahead.
Athena tells Zeus about Odysseus' situation. Zeus orders Hermes to make Calypso help Odysseus to get away. (Why did you not read book 5, your home assignment?)
