Why is Michelle Obama considered a hero?

Different people have different heroes and choose their heroes in different ways.

I usually think of heroes in terms of sports or military actions. Sports heroes get their status by outstanding performance in important events. Military heroes typically perform amazing feats under great danger to themselves and frequently die to same others. This idea extends to people such as doctors who risk their lives to save others. I do not know of any heroic acts that Michele Obama has performed but if she has performed such, that is why she is considered a hero. (Maybe you mean role model instead of hero? As a bright, attractive woman who has a successful husband and two pretty young daughters, she is undoubtedly a role model for many. )

Michelle Obama did many things that helped other people around the world to get a better life. Michelle Obama gave kids the loving of a family, a roof over their heads, cloths on their backs, and food on their plate. Michelle Obama also started a organization called Lets move! on giving kids the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Michelle Obama stated that her goal was to make this effort her legacy: "I want to leave something behind that we can say, 'Because of this time that this person spent here, this thing has changed.' And my hope is that that's going to be in the area of childhood obesity."

She is an admirable role model because she is the first lady of the US and is an intelligent, articulate and attractive black woman in her own right. Apart from the fact that is difficult and potentially dangerous to live and raise children in the goldfish bowl that is the White House, I am not aware that she has done anything heroic.
