It wouldn't be "silly" but it would be difficult to do, and hard to live with.
I have done two rooms in black over many years. One was a bathroom, which was very nice and well received by the client, however, if you think about it, no one spends a lot of time in a bathroom. Making it easier to live with.
The second was a bedroom, and it took six coats of paint to fully cover the walls. The time involved and the cost of the paint where much more than the owner had expected.
If you really want to paint a room black, first be certain you have the permission of the owner of the building.
Then have your paint retailer mix a dark primer, follow that with two (or more) coats of paint. I do recommend you reconsider painting the whole room and think about painting a single "accent" wall in the black and painting the other walls in some other more "livable" colour. If this is a bedroom, you can then use fabrics, window treatments and accent pieces to continue the "black" without it becoming overwhelming.
Remember, if you paint a room or even a wall black, it will take as much work to get rid of the colour as it took to get it. And if you are in a rental place it is usually required that you return a "special" paint job to a neutral colour when you leave.
