No...Cracks in the rib part of the belt is normal, but if the ribs of the belt has chunks of them missing or the cracks appear on the flat side of the belt replace the belt.
You will need to loosen the tensioner pulley. When the tensioner pulley is loose the air conditioning compressor belt will become loose. Put the new belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
Inspect it. When you see cracks or any frawing, replace it. Or you can just replace it every 100,000 miles.
The Prizm has a timing CHAIN, not belt. The timing chain does not get replaced on a scheduled interval. It should never need to be replaced. The serpentine belt, however, does need to be replaced. Inspect the belt for cracks and glazing, and replace. It is not a difficult DIY job. It is easiest to do it from under the car, after removing the splash pan.
You would probably need to replace a cracked diamond.
That is a broad question. Which belt do you want to replace? The seat belt, or an engine belt? As an engine belt which engine belt? The Fan belt? The water pump belt? The Alternator belt? The powersteering belt? The air conditioning belt? The timing belt? Is it s V belt or a serpentine belt? For what year Malibu? For what engine size? You need to get specific to get a good answer. Once you have Year Make, model, and engine size; you need to decide which belt you want to replace. Once you have all of the above information you can call your local parts store and get a price on the belt. Next you need to figure out how much time it is going to take to replace that belt. If you go to a dealer or automotive repair shop: Cost = Time to replace x(Shop Hourly Rate) + Cost of part( Belt to be replaced) + tax (can't forget the government) IF you replace it yourself: Cost = Cost of Part (belt to be replaced)+ tax+blood sweat and tears
You will need to remove all of the Freon from your air conditioning system. Remove the air conditioning hoses. Remove the compressor belt. Remove the compressor retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new air conditioner compressor.
it looks as if there are small cracks on the pulley side of the belt. If these are within 1/8" of one another you need a new belt NOW

go to parts store and tell them you need a belt for no air conditioning for your engine!!
1. Make sure that when you purchase a new belt, they don't try to sell you the full size serpentine belt. 2. There is a diagram of the belt routing on your truck when you lift the hood. Follow that. 3. Unfortunately, you need to remove the serpentine belt to replace the air conditioning belt.... the belt routing for the serpentine belt is also shown on the diagram. 4. To remove the serpentine belt, get a ratchet set, and crank the "self tensioning" assembly to release tension on the serpentine belt, and remove the belt. 5. There is another "self tensioning" assembly for the air conditioning belt. Crank to place the new AC belt on and release. 6. Re-install the serpentine belt. This is an easy fix... it took me less than 20 minutes, I'm not a mechanic.
The air conditioning pump can be bypassed on a 1995 Infiniti G20 if the pump is not working properly. The vehicle will need a new fan belt that will fit properly. A fan belt for this type of vehicle that does not have air conditioning will be best.
