its impossible to tell by just sore and swollen because it can be a number of things. if you twisted your ankle or did something that can cause physical injury to your ankle then you could have a broken bone or sprain. if you just started a new activity such as laying around the house every day to playing a sport like soccer or football that causes constant running and cutting you could have tendinitis witch is inflammation of the tendons. it could also be any number of other things like a infection, tumor, broken blood vessel. the only way to be sure is to talk to your doctor
