By not connecting the sound to those crappy speakers that are built into the television. Go to Wal-mart, and buy a surround system, don't go any cheaper than JVC. Bose being the highest quality. Next, walk over to the aisle where they have all the cables and pick up an optical audio cable. Don't put it back once you see the price tag you cheap bastard, you need it, trust me. On the back of your blu-ray player there is a square-looking optical audio port, and also one on the back of the surround system's receiver. You will most probably need to set the input source on the receiver to "digital". The signal sent through that audio cable includes all 6 audios channels. The box will say 5.1 surround system, that means 2 front speakers, a center speaker, 2 rear speakers, and the subwoofer. You're welcome. Oh, and if you didn't know that, you probably aren't using HDMI for video. While you're in the cable aisle at Wal-mart, pick up an HDMI cable, don't look at the price, you need it cheapster. I am assuming that you have a hi-def TV. Unplug those pre-historic RCA cables and put them under some stuff in the closet for future Salvation Army donation. You'll thank me when you have true high definition picture and crisp, clean sound with bass. Why would you even have a blu-ray player if you don't want those things? If you don't have a hi-def TV, another option for you would be to pick up a VHS player from a yard-sale and hook it up with coax, see if they have some Jefferson Airplane eight tracks, or Jesus Christ Superstar vinyl while you're at it.
Could be nothing more than the Bluray DVD's that you're watching aren't encoded in 5.1 surround.
Put the bluray into PLAY then go into the AUDIO MENU and change through the choices. When you select the correct one the sound should come on.
The Panasonic SC-BT series (there is no SP-series) are theatre-in-a-box systems with a disc player with built-in amplifier. You don't need a receiver for this. Your Samsung would also have its own amplifier if it has speaker outputs. These two systems wouldn't connect to each other, but you may be able to use the Panasonic's speakers with the Samsung.
A home theater system can be as simple or complex as one would like. They generally minimally contain a large TV, BluRay player and surround sound.
Samsung sells Home Theatre Systems, which consist of a surround sound receiver, speakers and a subwoofer. Some systems integrate a DVD or Blu-Ray player.
