Hanging Christmas Lights on the Home

Decorating the home for the holidays can certainly be a rewarding and pleasurable experience. With a game plan and the proper equipment, it is simple to beautifully decorate any home.

Having a Game Plan

Before setting foot outside, and overall plan for the lights should be determined. This will include checking all of the lights to ensure that no bulbs are burnt out. It is much easier to test the lights on the ground as opposed to when one is 20 feet up on a ladder. Adequate strings of lights should be gathered and a plan as to how everything will be installed is ideal. With multiple sections to be lit, this can be somewhat difficult.
If the same lighting design is going to be used in the future, a good idea would be to label specific strings of lights based on their location.
This will make the set up all the much easier next year.

The Right Tools

Safety should always be an important factor when hanging Christmas lights outside. A sturdy ladder will help to reach high gutters and the roof line. Care should be taken when working at such heights. If uncomfortable with the heights or if the house is several stories and one is unable to reach the desired location, professional companies offer decorating services.

Depending on where the lights will be attached, there are several installation options. Stapling directly into the house is not recommended as it can cause damage to the lights as well as the home. If it must be done, stapling onto the shingles should be avoided and the lights should instead be attached onto a durable section of the roof line. There are a variety of clips and attachment devices available on the market today. These are designed to slip under shingles with no damage and easily clip onto gutters as well. They are quite durable and will generally withstand decent winds.

Once everything is hung, all that needs to be done is to stand back and admire the beautiful Christmas lights.
