How To Buy A Used Pickup Truck

Garbage pick up - suburban district.

If your search for a used truck seems overwhelming, do not fret. Follow a few simple guidelines for purchasing a used truck, and soon you can call yourself the proud owner of a great pickup truck.

CARFAX

Run a CARFAX report for any vehicle you consider purchasing. A clean CARFAX report does not guarantee the truck a clean bill of health, but these reports reveal the history of the truck, including any accidents, damage or other things that could affect the lifespan of your pickup.

If a dealer does not show you the CARFAX report, you might want to consider going elsewhere.

Always look underneath

The underbelly of a pickup truck tells you a lot about the vehicle. A complete inspection of the underside reveals any leaks, damages, repairs or structural damage and may save you from purchasing a faulty pickup. If you do not know what to look for underneath the truck, make sure to take it to an experienced technician who can assess the truck and give you an idea of what problems the truck may have if it is in poor condition.

Make a list of what you want and need

The functions you require in the truck should have just as much weight in your purchasing decision as the style, paint color and price. What size cab do you need? How much hauling do you plan on doing? Do you need four-wheel drive capability for off-roading? How important is gas mileage to you? Consider all of these things, and make a prioritized list to bring with you while you search. If the trucks you see do not have the majority of these qualities, keep looking!

Buying a great used pickup truck can save you thousands of dollars and, if done right, can get you the pickup truck of your dreams.
