Apple iPods are a joy to have. With their ability to hold a multitude of media, including photos, videos and music, iPods have become an important part of everyday life. So what do you do when your iPod stops working? Because iPods are expensive, getting yours working again is always preferable to buying a brand new one.
You can resolve most issues with your Apple iPod with one of the 5 "R"s: reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore. These are ranked from simplest to most drastic. Resetting is the quickest fix to most problems, but restoring virtually ensures fixing your iPod at the price of losing all media on the device. To reset your iPod, switch the hold on and then back off. Then, press both the menu and the center buttons and hold them for at least six seconds or until the Apple logo appears on the screen. If the logo fails to appear, make sure the iPod has batteries. Plug it into a computer or power outlet to recharge the batteries. The second "R," retry, is for issues with syncing your iPod with iTunes. Try a different USB port if the first one receives no response from your iPod. The third "R," restart, is to restart your computer and to check that all of the software involved, including iTunes, is up to date. If this fails, resort to the fourth "R," which is to reinstall iTunes by downloading the latest version at the Apple website. You can do the fifth and final "R," restore, when your iPod is synced with your iTunes. This is only a last resort as it removes all data from your iPod, resetting it to its original factory settings.
If the five "R"s fail to fix your Apple iPod, you can always bring it in to the nearest Apple retailer, and they can fix it for you. Diagnosis of your Ipod often requires a small fee. Luckily, if you have had your iPod for less than a year, your warranty is still valid, allowing you to trade in your iPod for a completely brand new one of the same model as long as there are no major dents or water damage.
For more information, refer to Apple's website for user manuals. Also, check out the support forums where iPod users can discuss issues they encounter. If you live near an Apple retailer, you can bring in your Ipod. You can also call Apple's support line at 800-275-2273.
Hopefully, with these tips you can successfully get your Apple iPod functioning properly and providing you with hours of entertainment!
