How to Get a Better Night's Sleep

Do you find that your disrupted sleep patterns cause you to feel heavily fatigued during the daytime? Unfortunately, many individuals suffer from the common symptoms associated with sleep deprivation and their daily lives are adversely effected by a lack of quality rest at night. It is a proven fact that people with more regular sleep habits experience increased energy levels, are more mentally balanced, and retain more emotional stability in general than those who do not enjoy sufficient sleep.

When it comes to sleep, getting enough is certainly important. But even more important still is making sure that you get those crucial hours of shuteye at the same time each night. Keeping a regular sleep schedule, or getting to bed and waking up at the same time every day, is one of the best ways to improve your quality of sleep. Consistency is key, especially when it comes to formulating the ideal sleep schedule.

Be sure to set a regular bedtime and stick to it, getting to bed at the same time each and every night. Wake up at the same time each day as well, staying consistent even on the weekends.

When selecting your regular bedtime, be careful to choose a time period in which you usually feel tired anyway so that bedtime doesn't feel unnatural. Try your best not to break this bedtime routine on the weekends, even though this may prove to be a time when staying up later feels "normal." Your body will need time to adjust to this new time, so feel free to alter your bedtime gradually, in fifteen minute increments if it feels easier for you.

Choose a wake up time that suits your lifestyle and is easy to maintain. If your body and mind are getting sufficient sleep at night, you should be able to wake up naturally, without an alarm. When your circadian rhythms are completely tuned, you will wake up at approximately the same time each morning without fail and without the help of external stimuli.
