Chicken teriyaki

Teriyaki Chicken adds a nice burst of spice and flavor to many meals. It is simple to make and does not even require a trip to the supermarket to buy teriyaki sauce. You can make delicious teriyaki sauce in your own kitchen. This homemade sauce can act as your secret ingredient to spruce up plain chicken breasts, thighs or tenders.

Making Teriyaki Sauce

To create homemade teriyaki sauce, you need soy sauce, fresh ginger and either honey or sugar. The first step is to mix three parts soy sauce with one part honey or sugar. Next you put the mixture in a small saucepan and bring the sauce to a simmer. Stir regularly to dissolve the honey or sugar into the soy sauce.

Take some freshly grated ginger and sprinkle it into the sauce. Turn off the heat and let the ginger seep into the sauce mixture while you work on preparing the chicken for the marinade. Once it is ready, put the marinade in resealable plastic bag or plastic container and add the chicken to it. You should let the chicken remain in the marinade for at least 30 minutes to give it a rich flavor.

If you poke holes in the chicken with a fork, it will allow the teriyaki sauce to seep into the interior of the chicken while it marinates.

Cooking the Chicken

Once the marinating process is finished, remove the chicken and place it in a pan. Cook the chicken on each side for 10 minutes, turning it over once one side is browned. Make sure the chicken cooks on medium high heat

While the chicken is cooking, heat up the excess teriyaki sauce in a small saucepan again. Cook the sauce over medium low heat until it starts to thicken. Once it begins to thicken, remove the sauce from the heat and pour it over the cooked chicken.

The final product is delicious teriyaki chicken that can be used to create any number of mouth-watering homemade Asian dishes

If you want to add some variety to your teriyaki chicken dish, include a mix of stir-fry vegetables in the marinade.
