How to Use Hypnosis

Hypnosis has been a technique used for hundreds of years to cause relaxation, as well as greater cognition. Hypnotists around the world use hypnosis to help clients recall forgotten memories, retrain their brains to help fight addiction, as well as for entertainment purposes. Learning to use hypnosis is a process that requires patience, but the end result will be worth it.

Educate Yourself

The first thing you should do is educate yourself on hypnosis, its process, and its effects. There are many books that can be found at your local library, as well as online resources, including training programs. You may want to also consider finding a local hypnotist and see if you can study under him or her. Furthermore, you may be able to find a school in your area that specializes in hypnosis instruction.

Gaining Trust

Once you have learned how hypnosis works, you can begin to hypnotize people. One of the biggest factors in hypnosis is gaining a person's trust. The person you are hypnotizing needs to be able to fully trust you in order to relax enough to be hypnotized. You should assure the person that you know what you are doing and that you will take complete and total care of them while they are hypnotized.

Remain Professional

There are various reasons a person would want to be hypnotized. Recent discoveries have suggested that hypnosis can be used to stop smoking, or curb other addictions. Hypnosis has also been suggested to work on people wanting to lose weight. Hypnosis has also been used to help people regress within their memories, allowing them to recall events that they may have buried in their minds due to stress. Regardless of the reason, you must remain professional at all times during the hypnosis process. While someone is hypnotized, they are vulnerable and more susceptible to the will of others.

The Process

As you hypnotize someone, you will want to speak in a soft, gentle voice.

You may want to employ a device such as a swinging medallion that the patient concentrates on as they fall into a hypnotized state.
While the patient is hypnotized, you will need to use gentle commands in order to either evoke memories, or suggest changes to behavior. Once you are finished, you will need to gently give the command to awake, usually by counting down from 3 to 1.
