Safely Hanging a Pot Rack

Adequate space in the kitchen is often at a premium for many homeowners. One creative and attractive way to gain usable space and help with clutter would be the addition of a hanging pot rack. As these are quite heavy and large, it is extremely important that the rack be securely mounted. This can easily be done by most homeowners. If unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the mounting, it is recommended that it be professionally installed to ensure safety.

Choosing the Right One

The first step is to obviously decide on the rack that is going to be purchased and used. Since the rack and hanging pots and pans will be a large and prominent fixture in the kitchen, it is essential that it is one that is a attractive and matches the overall decor of the room. There are options and plans available where the homeowner can make a hanging pot rack. If this method is used, one needs to ensure that the rack is completely sturdy. By purchasing a pre-made rack, one will ensure that it is going to be durable.

Finding the Joists

Before the rack is mounted, studs or ceiling joists will need to be found. A stud finder will make this job the easiest.
The rack needs to be installed onto these secure boards. For the installation, the rack will need to be hung on one joist or two. If a rack has two mounting points, it can easily be installed on one joist. For larger racks that have four mounting points, this may need to be installed over the span of two or even three ceiling joists.

Securely Mounting

Once the joists are found, points should be marked on the ceiling where the hooks will be attached. Most racks attached with a simple screw style hook. This should be screwed completely into the ceiling joints and repeated for each one. The rack can then be placed onto the chain and hooked to the ceiling. It should hang level and even.

Once the path rack is securely hung in place, all that needs to happen would be the addition of the pots and pans.
