(10) Kano Sansetsu

(b Hizen Province, Kyushu [now part of Nagasaki Prefect.], 1589; d Kyoto, 1651). Pupil and adopted son of (8) Kano Sanraku. He was apprenticed to Sanraku after the death of his father, Senga [Chiga] Dogen (d 1605). By 1619 he had married his master's daughter, Kano Take (1601-62), and assumed the professional name Kano Heishiro. After the early death of Sanraku's eldest son, Kano Shuri Mitsunori, Sanraku adopted Sansetsu and designated him his successor as head of the Kyo Kano studio (see KANO SCHOOL,
