A dwarf planet located in the Kuiper Belt, beyond the orbit of Neptune. It was discovered in 2005 and is the second-brightest object in the Kuiper Belt as seen from Earth. Makemake is slightly smaller than Pluto and takes about 305 Earth years to complete one orbit around the sun 123. It has one provisional moon, S/2015 (136472) 1, nicknamed MK 2.

It is a dwarf planet. 136199 Eris is just a large trans-Neptunian object like 136108 Haumea, 50000 Quaoar, 134340 Pluto, 136472 Makemake, 225088 (2007 OR10), 90482 Orcus and 90377 Sedna.

At 5 billion km from the Sun (equal to approximately 33 astronomical units or 33 times farther from the Sun than the Earth) there exists two dwarf planets, within a region of space known as the Kuiper Belt (way out past Neptune).

The dwarf planets are known formally as: 1) 136108 Haumea

2) 136472 Makemake

They were discovered in 2004 and 2005 by astronomists and were given names from gods in Hawaiian mythology.
