The Constitution of the Russian Federation was ratified on December 12, 1993. The country held a Constitutional Conference in 1993.

Oleg Rumyantsev was the principle author of the Russian Constitution, he was the head of the Constitutional Commission of the Congress of People's Deputies of the Russian Republic (RSFSR). The constitution was ratified December 12, 1993, but was not in full effect until December 25, 1993.
