There is no term for " a group of bassets". The closest would be a litter.

The area of Fontaine-les-Bassets is 5,880,000.0 square meters.

If you mean the breed of dog, it's spelled with only one 't', basset or plural bassets. The noun basset or bassets is a common noun.
1 answer
It depends on what you were doing, if its cuteness, basset, if its good with children, basset. Bassets are dogs which are cute and reliable beagles are similar but in my opinion not as cute. Bassets would win a scent trail as they were originally bred for hunting and their nose is one of the best in the dog world. If looking to by a dog I would buy a basset, although beagles would be cheaper as insurance is cheaper for them because bassets are more likely to develop joint problems.
1 answer
no, it isn't, they contain the RDA level for adults and kids
1 answer
Because Bassets see humans as the leaders of their packs. They depend on us for feeding, shelter, safety, medical care, etc.
1 answer
It depends where they were. During that time I'm sure there was hunting going on, so probably Beagles, Foxhounds, Bassets, and other hounds.

There is not such a breed, but there are types of Bassets which tend to be physically smaller than the classic variety. The Basset Arteisan Normand, for example weighs in at around 35 pounds vs. the classic Basset Hound at around 75 pounds.

I also have a Lab/Basset mix. She is about 4 months old. Since Bassets aren't that big she won't get very much larger. But with having another dog in the house (lab) she might get bigger than the size of a basset. So your dog might get a little bit bigger of half the size of a lab.
1 answer
Nope that is the wrong breed of dog yes they do need to be walked but hiking long walks like that.. Boat fine as long as you do have a safety vest for the dog..So The Basset Hound is not the right breed for hiking and long walks and running
They are used to hunt fox, hare, opossum, and pheasant. While the dogs reflexes are slow, it has an excellent sense of smell.
Bassets Hounds are great dogs just not for what you like to do, that's why I tell people to choose the breed of dog that fits your life style..From your Q the Basset is not the right breed for your life style..

You need to get your bassets favorite treat. First try and get his/her attention. (wich shouldn't be hard since you have a treat). Next you'll need to put the treat in your hand and rasie it while saying sit. He probably wont do it at first, So just keep tryng. DO NOT push his bum down unless it takes like 20 tries for him to get it.
Hope it helps :)

The best place to get a Basset is at an animal shelter/humane society/Rescue . The price from one of these places will be hard to beat.
In addition, your new pet will be so happy to find you and your family. You will also be freeing up a space for another homeless dog.
May I suggest that you consider an adult? It is easy to find a home for a cute puppy. The adults must wait for an average of 4 months. Also, puppies are a lot of work and can be very messy!
With an adult, you can better know what you are getting into. You are taking a chance with a puppy.
Finally, I find that Petfinder.com is an excellent to find your new pet. You can search for all Bassets within a certain distance from you.

Almost all pedigree breeds of Dog suffer from some inherited illness or health problems, and the Basset Hound is no exception. This breed is prone to arthritis, so avoid letting them do much jumping and strenuous exercise. Torsion is a type of ailment that comes from twisting the stomach or sometimes the stomach ends will flip. As you can imagine this is very uncomfortable for your dog and can lead to the death of the stomach. If your dog stops eating for any reason it's a good idea to take it to the vet to see what is going on. One way to stop stomach problems is to feed your dog more than one time a day instead of giving a large meal. This will also keep them from bloating which is another illness that happens. Bloating usually happens when a dog eats too quickly and takes in a lot of air and water. This is not good for them. Just like in people, Basset Hounds also commonly suffer from Glaucoma, giving them bulging eyes, sensitivity to light, rubbing and scratching and they may be in pain. Eye lid and eye lash problems are also relatively common. Some Bassets have a challenge with their eye lids turning in or out which causes their cornea to dry out. This is something to talk to the vet about and it can be fixed through surgery. Some Basset's also suffer from Intervertebral Disk Disease which is where the disks in their back may herniate and it usually is caused from dogs jumping very high or low. Bassets should not be jumping at all because they are so short in stature. You'll find your dog quite prone to ear infections. It could be caused due to yeast or bacteria, as the bassets long ears tend to retain moisture making it a haven for yeast and bacterial infections. Consult with a vet immediately for proper diagnosis. You might imagine that Bassets would be susceptible to obesity especially if they don't get enough exercise. Their joints and bones can't take the extra weight. They should walk daily and get a chance to place in an enclosed yard. This will help them stay trim.
Some of the most common basset hound illnesses you may see, are listed here:
This occurs in one or both of the basset hound's eyes when the 3rd eyelid prolepses and becomes visible. It looks like a large cherry sitting in the white of the dog's eye. Afterward you may see a little discharge and the area become inflamed. Most experts think that this is a hereditary weakness that is created at birth because it generally happens in basset hound puppies if you are going to see it. The only way to fix this is surgery so you will need to ask your veterinarian for more information.
Due to basset hound's floppy ears, bassets are prone to ear infections so you have to make sure you often check on them. Because their ears are heavy they have a tendency to produce and hold moisture which bacteria and yeast absolutely love. The way that you will know that they have an ear infection is that you will see a brown discharge and it will smell bad. The best way to deal with this is to take them to the vet for treatment. The vet will tell you what you need to do so that this issue doesn't develop into a chronic illness.
This is the medical term for bloat and Bassets are very prone to it. What happens technically is that their stomach will swell up with swallowed air and then it rotates. Usually a dog will inhale a lot of air when they exercise or eat and the air is usually release when they belch. If your dog experiences any of these symptoms - swollen belly, non-productive vomiting or retching, restlessness, stomach pain or more drooling than normal - get them to the vet immediately.
Bassets can die if they bloat and it is not attended to but you can also prevent the situation. Feed your dog a series of two or three small meals a day instead of one large one. Also don't allow them to drink while they are eating or immediately following their eating.
Keeping your dog healthy is easy if you keep watch periodically of the areas that you know are prone to have health problems.
Some of the common basset hound diseases to watch are:
Luxating Patella
this is a condition that may happen because of the Basset's extremely short legs. As they are running, playing or jumping you hear a yelp of pain and then their leg seems to seize up. They also limp a bit and everything seems to go back to normal. However, this may be more than a little problem.
You might see this in older dogs and it looks strange because the leg is pointing in a rearward direction. This is something to be attended to quickly so that the condition doesn't get worse. If unattended your dog can have problems with lameness, arthritis and poor mobility.
Panosteitis
This is a disease that you will want to watch when you get a Basset puppy. Usually this will be shown as a rotating lameness in puppies up to 18 months old. Often this disease is misdiagnosed and the veterinarian may offer surgery as an option and it may not be that serious.
The challenge with this disease is it happens quickly and no one really knows why. It comes on suddenly and is often misdiagnosed as hip dysplasia. The only way to help these situations is through drugs that alleviate pain. Aspirin, Cortisone and other pain relievers will help in this situation.
Other than these diseases it is a very good idea to watch your basset hound for other symptoms of other issues. Always check their eyes, ears and teeth to make sure that everything looks okay. If they start scratching their ears or they stop eating, these are indications that something is wrong.

The Dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound family that was originally bred for hunting badgers by trailing them. They are famous for use in exterminating badgers and badger-baiting Dachshunds (literally "Dachs hunds", "badger dogs") were originally bred for this purpose.

The Basset Hound is sweet, gentle, devoted, peaceful and naturally well-behaved. They fit into family life well. Their temperament should always be friendly, and never vicious, moody or harsh, and would only become so if the owners led the dog to believe he was pack leader over humans. They are mild but not timid; very affectionate with its master and friendly with children. It can be a bit stubborn with meek owners and need a firm, confident, and consistent owner who displays natural authority over the dog. Dogs need to know the rules of the house and have the humans stick to them. Bassets like to do tricks for food. It has a deep musical bark. Housebreaking is difficult, but they do well with positive reinforcement and patient, gentle training. With proper training, they are obedient, but when they pick up an interesting smell, it's sometimes hard to get their attention, as they like to follow their noses and may not even hear you calling them back. Only allow your Basset off lead in safe areas.

Seriously.. if you're trying to get rid of the stool eating, it can be a challenge. There are off the shelf brand stool modifiers designed to make stools less "tasty" to animals, and there are some anecdotal common household items that have been used. Mixing pineapple in with meals, meat tenderizer (**watch out for too much salt in diet**) , or after poo treatments like hot-pepper spices sprinkled over, or just plain picking up the poo to keep it away from the dog long enough for them to loose interest .. The common diagnosis involve two paths, the first that its a learned reaction, either from abuse, from mentor (older dogs) or motherhood (mothers have been known to clean poo from the birthing cages to keep the fecal mater away from pups), the other is that the dog is lacking something in their diet and supposedly the poo makes up for it. Personally I'd recommend adding some crushed pineapple in with a good quality kibble for a few days and see if that helps.. steer clear of the meat tenderizer option if possible because many are high salt, the pineapple option seemed to work with my bassets.

The cost of adopting a dog from the SPCA varies by area. The best bet is to call your local office and ask. Fees for adoption are used to defray the costs of giving a dog his shots and having him checked and cleared by a veterinarian. Dogs are usually spayed or neutered by the adoption agency, too, and though the SPCA gets a "discount" for vet services, they still have to pony up.
Your probability of being able to adopt a specific breed will vary, and mixed breed dogs predominate at shelters, as you might have guessed. Bassets are uncommon. If you have your heart set on a basset hound, you might wish to see if there are any breed specific rescue operations in your area. Larger urban areas do have them, but a basset might be a little hard to find. It might help to post an ad online, too. There might be someone who needs to move and cannot take a dog. Expect to be contacted by a breeder or another party who wishes to sell you a basset.
It is wise to take proper precautions when dealing with any private party regarding the purchase of a dog or any animal. A "clearance" of some kind from a vet is probably an absolute minimum.

Some adaptations of the Siberian Husky are it's ability to withstand extreme cold due to their double coat, having very tough feet which allow them to run over ice and snow for long periods of time and having a slow metabolism which allows them to do all of this on a minimal amount of food.

Labs come in three colors: yellow, black, and chocolate. So, which color is your dog?Yellow and Black and pretty common colors for the majority of dogs. Chocolate isn't too uncommon either. So, "the color of a lab" doesn't help much in determining the dog's linage. Now, you say Basset hound. Is this dog heavy, short, and long? Are the legs even slightly bowed like with most Bassets? The other option is a Daschund. The only way to rule one or the other out would be to check the type of coat the dog has, and possibly size since a Basset mix would be much larger than a Daschund mix. Also, there are many other factors that play in to mixed breeds. Type of ears, head, muzzle, tail, eyes, skin, and coat and legs as I said earlier. I know you still don't have an answer, but that's because no one can accurately pin point the exact breeds of a mix when we don't have a picture...and even then sometimes we still can't. Either way, I'll give a list of possibility: Lab X Basset Lab X Daschund Pit Bull-type X Basset Pit Bull-type X Daschund Basset X Daschund There, of course, is an endless amount of other possibilities, but what I listed are the most likely. If you're still interested in knowing, send me an email with a picture of the dog and I will do my best to give you a good answer. echoxxash [at] gmail dot com

For all dogs, its generally recommended to offer twice a day feedings ... morning & evening. Some dogs and some *breeds* are fine having food available 24/7 and letting them eat when ever they want. JRT as the breed can easily go both ways (getting obese if food is always available, or eating only when truly hungry)
Example: One breed of dog not recommended to generally 'leave food available for' is the Basset Hound ... bassets are notoriously food motivated, so it is especially important to make sure food is only available two or three times a day for their breed, and always take into consideration any snacks you may feed.
One reason to feed twice a day (splitting their total meal in half or slightly larger portion in the morning) is to help establish a routine for your dog. Another option is to feed morning and evening, and leave a timed food / treat dispenser available ... with a JRT, this might be beneficial, as they would get a morning meal... and through out the day they could get a snack which keeps them more active..
JRT's are notoriously active and intelligent dogs, doing something to keep them from being destructive would be the goal of having things like filled/stuffed Kongs and timed treat release holders.
