Summer certainly does have it's charms - pool parties, amusement parks, getting to walk around nearly nakie... But when it comes to fashion, fall is the season to get really excited about. It's the perfect balance between too hot for layers and to cold for cute. In the autumn fashion magazines go full throttle with some of the biggest issues you'll find all year long. In fact, the month of September is like a fashion media blitz with runway shows and ad campaigns at their yearly peak. It's a very exciting time, but when you're in the thick of summer fall can descend before you know it and you're left wearing a sundress in 50-degree weather. Meanwhile it's not quite cold enough yet to pull out your angora and cashmere. In addition, fall clothing and accessories can be quite a bit pricier than summertime garb - which means that stocking up for the season needs to happen over time, and not in one fell swoop. So what do you do? Take these quick tips to help you make that style transition from summer to fall.

Cardigans: This is a no-brainer. Cardis are a super simple solution to chilly backs, arms and shoulders left bare by tank tops and spaghetti straps. For this transition period cotton blends are best. The most stylish cuts are either shrunken - for a preppy and girly look - or oversized - for a more relaxed appearance. Be wary of sizes in between, else you'll look like you're on your way to the office or a church bake sale... ehem, no offence to either institution.

Tights: Thankfully, hosiery has come a very long way in the last couple decades. The stretchy undergarment can be both comfortable and stylish when chosen correctly, and thankfully those choices are easier than ever to make. Current trends say that you can wear tights with literally anything. Of course you can throw on a pair under a mini skirt or a summer dress, but now you can even wear tights with your cut-off jeans and your sandals. It's the perfect way to protect those gams from the elements and add spice to your look with color or texture.

Scarves: Reader beware! I'm not talking about those thick wool numbers that you wear in the dead of winter. Transitional scarves are silk, light-weight cotton, or even linen. Large square scarves (40 inches or bigger) look great cowboy-style or wrapped and tucked into a blazer or a denim jacket. This also an inexpensive way to add color or pattern to an otherwise plain look. And won't mom be proud that you took her advice and kept your chest nice and warm!

Fall may not be as wild and summer, but ultimately it's a season where a clotheshorse can really express herself through her wardrobe. So take these tips to ease into the weather with style and grace.
