A gollywog is a black doll made of cloth like a Raggedy Ann doll. It has exaggerated eyes and mouth and was made for children to play with. It has gone out of favor as some people in the black community say it's an insult to people of African descent.

We need a bit more information on this one:

You mean environment - or the surroundings.

But Pollywog? You could mean 'polyxxx' where 'poly' means 'lots of different'.

For example, 'Polyglot' is a person who can speak lots of languages.

Or perhaps 'Gollywog' which is a politically incorrect doll from old times that was supposed to look like an African American in slavery times.

It's human nature to group like things together. Its a shorthand, if we didn't have it jokes wouldn't work. Though it obviously has a negative side. But we have come along a long way from racial stereotypes, as a child gollywog dolls were common and I saw on harm in them, but when I viewed the Victorian Sambo books that had made them popular I could understand why they were offensive in extreme.
