Gum will not throw off a breatalyzer. I have had several people try to do this from gum to redhots and it doesn't work. The only thing they may do is gum up the machine. Nothing in the gum has an antialcohol effect. Also in most states the results of a PBT are not cause for arrest in and of itself. You need more than the results (field sobriety testing). Just don't drink and drive and you don't have to think about ways around the system.
