If the ECG machine malfunctions you will need to redo the test. You can try unplugging the machine and replugging it to see if that resets the system.

Try unplugging and replugging in the sensor. If you recently had your air conditioned serviced it may not read correctly.

You can certainly lay a refrigerator down. And it will probably operate for a period of time. But the mechanics, particularly the bearings, are designed to work when standing upright. They well wear unevenly and eventually fail pretty quickly of laid on the side or back.
