You can help expedite the process by asking a lender to help you do a "rescore". To do this you would have to furnish documents from the collection agency stating the debt is paid in full. Your lender can then submit this information along with a "rescore" form to the bureau they work with to start the process. Typically the cost to do this is $25.00 per each tradeline per each bureau you need to update. It can be a costly endeavor (depending on how many collections there are) but, you are pretty much guaranteed a much quicker turn around on your credit score (upward movement) within a one - two week period. If you choose to not go this way, you can just wait and hope that the creditor involved will report the positive information on their own to the bureaus; this could take a min. of 30 days to goodness knows when, if they don't update.

You cannot get an FHA loan if your credit score is below 620, since it is backed by the government, they have very strict guidlines on the process. However, if you work with a mortgage lender that does FHA, often times they have "credit rescoring" prgrams that will tell you exactly what you need to do to get your score to the 620 that you need. Once you do what they need, they can do a rescore and it will raise you credit. Good luck!
