There were many Roman satirists, satire was a genre of Latin
literature. Satire was not used to attack the city of Rome. It was
used rise questions about morality, superstition and habits and to
mock the hypocrisy found in society. It used laughter as a tool for
self-criticism.
Famous Roman satirists were Lucilius, Horace, Petronius,
Martial, Juvenal and Apuleius.
