India was under British rule during Ww1 and Ww2 so Great Britain
used not only their own forces but the forces of the countries they
controlled like Canada. India had only a 2% population of Sikh
people yet astoundingly Sikhs made up 22% of the British army. They
we chosen as our religion states "we are not afraid of death, we
are babar shers(lions)". This is also why we are given the names
Lions of the Great War. India also produced about 1 million Sikh
troops. We were also chosen as our anthem states "May I die
fighting courageously" and for a Sikh it was and still is a great
honour to die fighting on a battlefield than to die without honour
or bravery
