Biography

Ambitious at a young age, the Southern California-based outfit A Cursive Memory had already managed to secure MTV airplay when most bands their age were stuck trying to come up with an original name. The pop/rock group -- which combines piano leads, rousing choruses, '80s-influenced keyboards, and sunny melodies -- took influence from a wide range of sources, including bands like the Killers, the All-American Rejects, and the Beach Boys. Colin Baylen (guitar, vocals) and Shaun Profeta guitars, vocals) first met at a birthday party in eight grade, becoming fast friends and casually writing songs together. Friend Brian Boylen next came into the mix, and the trio began jamming after school before adding Mark Borst-Smith, a classically-trained pianist and budding bassist, to the lineup. A Cursive Memory was officially born, and the young group used Smith-Borst's piano skills to their advantage, slowly incorporating keyboard parts into their sound. By the time the members were juniors in high school, A Cursive Memory had attracted the attention of M-Music, the music management division of Bunim/Murray Productions (responsible for shows like The Simple Life and MTV's The Real World). The quartet was the first act to sign with the company, resulting in the inclusion of their music in such MTV shows as The Real World and The Gauntlet 2. By early 2006, they had begun work on their debut EP, Respeck!, which was released the following year. Drummer Dillan Wheeler climbed onboard to replace the departing Boylen, and A Cursive Memory signed with Vagrant Records before issuing their full-length debut, Changes, in February 2008. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide

Sincerely Me

A Cursive Memory is a Pop Rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band originally formed as Sincerely Me[1] in 2003 after members Colin Baylen and Shaun Profeta had met at a birthday party. Mark Borst-Smith and Brian Bolen completed the foursome. This original lineup featured Baylen on rhythm guitar and vocals; Bolen on lead guitar and vocals, Borst-Smith on keyboards, bass guitar, and vocals; and Profeta behind the drums. They started off playing covers of some of their favorite bands, such as blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World, but eventually grew to write their own original songs and adopted the name A Cursive Memory.

A Cursive Memory

Over the course of the next year, ACM had built up a small local fan base and self-released their self-titled EP. which was recorded in Bolen's home studio and featured the original version of The Piano Song. In 2005 the band self-released another EP; this time calling it Lights, Camera, Action EP. Lights, Camera, Action showcased a much more refined sound with Profeta contributing a significant amount of vocals this time around; as well as a new version of The Piano Song. Although ACM wasn't able to tour outside of their local scene, mostly because all of the members were still in high school, they were able to catch the attention of Bunim/Murray Productions (The Real World/Road Rules). The song Club Revolution Remix was featured on an episode of The Real World.

Changes

The band spent 2006 and 2007 writing and recording tons of new material; much of which would eventually become their debut album, Changes. It was at this time that the song Changes was written and played for the first time at the reunion show for Shaun's brother's old band A Cutthroat Kiss. The band was also featured on an episode of The Simple Life where they played a clip of Changes. In the course of time, the band saw Profeta move to lead guitar and Bolen to drums. In the spring of 2007, the band was featured on the season finale of The Simple Life where they played Perfect Company. At the same time, they joined Hellogoodbye for several of their west coast tour dates and soon after, Bolen had left the band to pursue his side project Fibonacci. Upon graduation, the band had finally gotten their major break and signed with Santa Monica based Vagrant Records (The Get Up Kids, Dashboard Confessional). They put out the RESPECK! EP which featured four songs from the soon-to-be released debut album and Baylen's remix of Perfect Company. Good friend Mishka Bier (Transit Studio) filled in Bolen's spot for several shows before another good friend, Dillan Wheeler, took over the drumming duties; moving Profeta back to lead guitar. The band toured relentlessly across the United States that summer, and their debut album, Changes, was released on Vagrant on February 19, 2008. Changes features remasters of three older songs: Figure Out, Changes, and The Piano Song.

Bandarazzi

To help promote the single Everything, the band developed the project "Bandarazzi"-- half band, half paparazzi. After an entire summer of filming, they debuted with a music video for their song "Everything" on the social networking website MySpace. The video was shot while following paparazzi around Los Angeles and featured cameo appearances from celebrities, including Britney Spears, Masi Oka, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Hayden Panettiere, Tobey Maguire, Jenna Fischer, Perez Hilton, Hilary Duff, Nick Carter [disambiguation needed], Dr. Dre, Rick Ross, Criss Angel, Kim Kardashian, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Madonna, David Spade, Aly & AJ, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jerry Springer, David Archuleta and will.i.am. The video created an Internet buzz and set the record for Most Watched Rock Video In One Week on MySpace, after having been viewed more than 500,000 times. The video has since appeared on Fox News, TMZ.com, E! Online, The N and in the top 10 of MTV's Total Request Live countdown.

Band v. Wild

In support of the album's second single, Perfect Company, the band traveled to the Alaskan frontier to shoot their music video for it.

On Tour

The band has played alongside bands including Saves the Day, hellogoodbye, Senses Fail, and Jimmy Eat World. They did a co-headlining tour with The Medic Droid across the United States in support of their debut album, Changes, including an appearance at The Bamboozle Left festival. A Cursive Memory appeared on a leg of the Warped Tour 2008.

The band played the Bamboozle roadshow opening for Saves the Day, Armor for Sleep, Set Your Goals, Lydia, and Metro Station.

On most recent tours, they have played covers of Rihanna's Disturbia, Hilary Duff's Come Clean, and The Postal Service's Such Great Heights. They have also played a new song, Summer Soul.

The band is currently in the studio recording the follow up to 2008's Changes.

They are appearing for one date of Warped Tour 2009 in Pomona, California.
