Biography

At the heart of Staind's loud, angst-laden music are the confessional lyrics and introspective personality of frontman Aaron Lewis. While other post-grunge bands were able to successfully mine the dark caverns once explored by Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, Lewis allowed his sensitivity to pour freely from his words and often pensive vocals, enabling Staind to strike a balance between heavy metal bombast and thoughtful, melodic rock. Born in Springfield, VT, Lewis listened to folk music as a child. The son of divorced parents, Lewis chronicled the emotional turmoil in his childhood with Staind, namely on tracks like "Epiphany" and "For You," from Break the Cycle. Like the late Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, Lewis casts an unpretentious, no-frills image, exhibiting a brooding disposition and emotional vulnerability that troubled youths can relate to. Lewis recorded his first album with Staind, Tormented, in 1996. Staind remained on the fringes of mainstream acceptance until "Outside," a live collaboration between Lewis and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst during the 1999 Family Values Tour, blew up on alternative and mainstream rock stations a year later. With only his acoustic guitar as his musical backing, Lewis delivered a raw, anguished performance of a song that Staind would later record in the studio for Break the Cycle. The track carved the path for Staind's subsequent commercial breakthrough. ~ Michael Sutton, All Music Guide

Wikipedia: Aaron Lewis

Aaron Lewis, (born April 13 1972 in Rutland, Vermont, U.S.), is the lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist of the hard rock group Staind.

Background

Lewis grew up, largely, in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Aaron Lewis was, before Staind, in a band known as J-CAT with Tori Sands, Chris Ballini, and Staind bandmate Jon Wysocki. An album surfaced on the internet with 9 of J-CAT's performances at Club Infinity in Springfield, Massachusetts. The performances were recorded while Dysfunction was being recorded. Two of Staind's popular singles—"Outside" and "It's Been Awhile"—were both originally performed by J-CAT with somewhat different lyrics.

Lewis is renowned for his songwriting skills and has been nominated for 3 Grammys. His hobbies include fishing, golf and riding his mini dirt bike. He has worked in landscaping, cleaned hotel rooms, and played solo acoustic sets in bars around Atlanta. He is married to Vanessa Lewis and has two daughters, Zoe Jane and Nyla Rae and are expecting their 3rd daughter sometime November 2007. Aaron has two sisters Yvette and Rachel. He was also featured on a remix for the song "Crawling" on Linkin Park's album Reanimation (the remix is titled "Krwling" on the album), as well as Sevendust's album Animosity, in which he contributed vocals to the song "Follow" and on the songs "Bleed" and "Send In the Clowns" by the band "Cold." He's also featured on Jimmie's Chicken Shack's song "Falling Out," the only single off their 2004 album re.present

On November 4, 2006, Aaron performed at his old high school in Longmeadow and gave all the proceeds to the music department to fund the department's expenses to buy new equipment and supplies.[citation needed]

Aaron Lewis is currently in talks about working on a solo CD, that is expected to be much like his acoustic tour.
