The seventh month of the year in the Hebrew calendar, corresponding to Nisan.

[Hebrew 'ābîb, young barley, spring, Abib.]

The original name of the first month of the year falling at the beginning of spring. The Exodus from Egypt took place in Abib, which thus became the date for the celebration of the Feast of Passover.
