When housed under captive or commercial conditions, birds often show a range of abnormal behaviours. These are often self-injurious or harmful to other individuals, and include:
- Feather pecking
- Cannibalism
- Vent pecking
- Toe pecking
- Feather plucking
- Stereotypies
- Polydipsia
- Sham or "vacuum" dustbathing
