Biermann, Aenne (née Sternfeld; 1898-1933), German photographer and major exponent of the ‘new photography’ of the 1920s. Her wealthy commercial background enabled her to engage intensively with contemporary aesthetic debates. After marriage, and the birth of two children, she focused initially on her domestic surroundings, though friendship with Rudolf Hundt encouraged her to explore the medium's wider possibilities.
