(b Łódz, 12 June 1897; d Paris, 15 Nov 1986). French composer and pianist of Polish origin. He studied with Rytel and in 1919 moved to Paris, where he came under the influence of Ravel, Milhaud and Stravinsky. He made his first tour as a pianist in 1927 with the Boston SO, later touring internationally as a pianist and conductor. During World War II he lived in the USA, returning to France in 1946. His large output covers most genres in a fluent variety of styles, though with a French neoclassical slant.
