Plot

Bob Hope plays a 19th-century insurance agent whose miserable sales record prompts his boss to send him out West, where he can (supposedly) do little harm. Hope manages to sell a $100,000 life insurance policy--to outlaw Jesse James (Wendell Corey), one of the worst "risks" in history! In his efforts to get the policy back, Hope finds himself being mistaken for Jesse, which is all part of the outlaw's plan to get Hope killed and thereby collect the policy money himself. But with the help of beauteous Rhonda Fleming (the essentially honest beneficiary to Jesse's policy), Hope gains a reputation as a lightning-fast gunslinger. In the inevitable shoot-out with the James gang, Hope is helped out by several famous Westerners, including Gary Cooper, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, James "Maverick" Garner, and even Tonto (Jay Silverheels). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Alias Jesse James (1959) is a Bob Hope western comedy movie.[1][2] A highlight for fans of Westerns of that era happens during the gun fight climax at the end of the movie that features a number of cameos by movie and television personalities (James Garner as Bret Maverick; Fess Parker as Davy Crockett; Gary Cooper as Will Kane from "High Noon"; Roy Rogers; Bing Crosby; Jay Silverheels as Tonto; Hugh O'Brian as Wyatt Earp; James Arness as Marshal Matt Dillon; Ward Bond as Major Seth Adams; and Gail Davis as Annie Oakley). Some releases of the movie after its original theatrical release did not include all the cameos due to myriad legal problems with the rights, but Hope's clout at the time was so great that he managed to gather a dazzling array of screen cowboys for the original. The 2007 "MGM Movie Legends" DVD release of the film includes all of the cameos.

Plot

Milford Farnsworth (Hope) is a bumbling insurance agent who unknowingly sells a life insurance policy to the outlaw Jesse James (Wendell Corey). Farnsworth is sent out West to protect the insurance company's investment by "protecting" James. James has his own plans to have Farnsworth killed while dressed as James, so that he and his soon to be "widow" Cora Lee Collins (Rhonda Fleming) can collect on the $100 000 insurance policy. Farnsworth avoids several attempts on his life while he and Collins fall in love with each other. After the last attempt is made on his life, Farnsworth impersonates the justice of the peace who is supposed to marry James and Collins. When Farnsworth and Collins make a run for it, they end up in a gun battle with the James Gang where several Western stars make their cameos to surreptitiously help Farnsworth. In the end Farnsworth is victorious, marries Collins, and becomes the president of the insurance company he works for.
