Biography

The duo of Corin Dingley and Andy Jenks formed Alpha after working on such projects as Statik Sound System and the Sugarboat. The duo are inspired by film soundtracks and the songwriting of Jimmy Webb with the same intensity that Massive Attack give to hip-hop and dub. Both collectives, however, are from Bristol and recruit vocalists to bring their downtempo, beat-heavy compositions to life. Alpha was signed to Massive Attack's Melankolic Records in 1997; that same year, they released their debut album Come from Heaven. The Pepper EP followed in 1998. Impossible Thrill was issued three years later. In 2003, Alpha achieved their greatest success in their native UK with the release of Stargazing. Major British print publications such as Q and the Sunday Times praised the album for its meticulous production and lush soundscape. Stargazing, which included three brand new tracks, saw a stateside release in spring 2004. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Wikipedia: Alpha and Omega (radio plays)
Top
Not to be confused with the actual Alpha processor by Digital Equipment Corporation

Alpha is the name of a fictional computer in Mike Walker's radio drama of the same name.

Alpha has been broadcast several times over the past few years on BBC7 as part of a pair of plays, Alpha and Omega.

Alpha and Omega were first broadcast on the BBC World Service in 2001 and 2002 respectively before being aired on BBC Radio 4 and BBC 7.

The first play won the Drama Award (World Service) in 2001's Sony Radio Awards and the second play did even better, winning two Worldplay awards in 2002.[1] [2]

Alpha examines issues of artificial intelligence from the viewpoint of established Christian teaching on the soul and human existence in the world. The main character in Alpha is a priest employed by the Vatican as a sort of troubleshooter.

The other play, Omega [3], was also written by Mike Walker and focusses on belief in God and in miracles, contrasting these issues with the central character's belief in structure and reality. The central character of Omega is an architect's building contractor whose daughter has miraculously survived a car crash.
