Review

Marketed as a children's album, Always Your Pal, Gene Autry compiles 16 recordings, most of which were made in the '50s. Some of the selections, such as "Rusty the Rocking Horse" and "Bucky the Bucking Bronco" are children's songs, while others, including "Back in the Saddle Again" and "The Old Chisholm Trail," are simply Western songs. The package offers Gene Autry's adult fans an opportunity to collect some of his seldom-anthologized recordings (many of the children's songs are enjoyable and only marginally juvenile), while children will appreciate the many animal characters described in the lyrics. The booklet includes lyrics for all of the selections so that listeners can easily sing along. ~ Greg Adams, Rovi
