MIT Wind Ensemble was created in 1999.

Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble was created in 1966.

Phase One - Art Ensemble of Chicago album - was created in 1971-02.

As the name suggests, a wind ensemble is made up entirely of wind instruments (woodwinds and brass), though it can also use percussion. There are no strings. Meanwhile, the symphony orchestra is mostly strings, with some winds as well.

A Symphonic band includes String, Percussion, Brass, and Woodwind players. A wind ensemble wouldn't have any String instrument players.
