Ramsay, Andrew Michael (1686-1743). French writer of Scottish birth, known as ‘le chevalier Ramsay’. Converted to Catholicism by Fénelon, he edited his master's works and wrote in his defence. Les Voyages de Cyrus (1727), a philosophical novel in imitation of Télémaque, enjoyed great success. Ramsay was a Jacobite and an early freemason.
