Biography

The man mysteriously known to most as Andy C. undoubtedly is one of the most important figures in drum'n'bass' evolution. He was there at the dawn of the '90s when drum'n'bass was still hardcore techno, honing his talents as a DJ. Then, in 1992, just as drum'n'bass was beginning to blossom, he formed Ram Records with Ant Miles. The label quickly became one of drum'n'bass' driving forces, releasing a plethora of 12" EPs featuring many of the genre's leading producers. As part of the duo Origin Unknown with Miles, Andy C. produced one of Ram's many landmark tracks, "Valley of the Shadows." Released in 1993, the track quickly became not only an anthem but also a classic, being remixed and re-released repeatedly. Later in the '90s came more Origin Unknown tracks; in addition, Andy C. joined forces with Shimon and Miles to form the much-celebrated supergroup Ram Trilogy. Andy C, real name Andrew Clarke, is an English DJ and producer, and co-founder of record label RAM Records.

Career

Andy C began his DJ career in the early 1990s at raves in his native Essex at the age 14. He specializes in fast mixing, often employing three turntables, and is known for mixing established classics with new releases.

He is also an accomplished producer – working solo, with Ant Miles as Origin Unknown, and with both Ant Miles and Shimon as Ram Trilogy. Between them they have produced tracks such as "Titan", "No Reality" and "Valley of the Shadows", as well as a large number of remixes. Valley of the shadows is widely respected as one of the early defining Jungle records of the early 1990s. The 2002 Shimon & Andy C hit "Body Rock" entered the UK pop charts (reaching number 28 in the UK Singles Top 40 Chart on January 6 2002).

Andy C's record label RAM Records, based in Hornchurch, Essex, was started with Ant Miles in 1992. Ram Records consists of DJs and producers: Shimon, Red One, Moving Fusion and Sub Focus. Some of Ram Records' most popular releases of recent times are Noisia's "Facade", Sub Focus' "Airplane", Sub Focus' "TimeWarp", Shimon's "The Shadow Knows" and Chase & Status's "Hurt You"
