Review

Comedian Andy Dick is a subversive character who's known for telling it like it is -- and then some. He's downright crass, but that's what makes him a gifted artist. His biting wit is practically insincere and fans love it. On his debut album, Andy Dick & the Bitches of the Century, Dick's musical repertoire focuses on stalking women, Stephen Hawking, killing frogs, and his most favorite topic, buttholes. It's a loose musical interpretation with simple guitars, electronic/dance bits, and Dick's nasal, nerd-like sound. First single "Love Ninja (The Stalker Song)" is an odd but hilarious take on being obsessed, which isn't necessarily surprising for Andy Dick. His approach is dry and witty and that makes the song so believable. The rehab anthem "30 Days 30 Nights" could be a personal account, but don't be so quick to judge. Dick tactlessly switches it into a dark, sexualized tale, but still -- he's funny. Basically, Dick is quite fond of his male anatomy and isn't afraid to share it. "Little Brown Ring" and "C**k & Balls" are obvious reasons why. Andy Dick & the Bitches of the Century might not impress every fan of Adam Sandler. Tenacious D loyalists could possibly find the humor and beauty behind the bizarro world of Andy Dick. But honestly, Dick is a comedic loner. His spoof of Daphne Aguilera is nowhere in sight. He loves it that way, and those who appreciate childish ways of poking fun will enjoy this album. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
