Angola will hold a presidential election in early 2012. Voter registration took place in late 2006 and through 2007. The election was originally meant to be held in 1997, but it was postponed numerous times due to organizational and logistical problems. [1][2]
In a 45-page report released on 23 February 2009, Human Rights Watch criticized alleged flaws in the 2008 parliamentary election and urged that the Angolan electoral commission be reformed "to ensure credible and independent oversight of all future elections".[1]
