Poker Guide:

Animal

This term refers to when a player’s hole cards consist of a King and a nine.

SoundPoker Says: This term comes from combining K, short hand for King, and Nine, with the resultant pronunciation sounding similar to "canine". A canine is a type of animal, hence the origin of the term.

Overall this is a mediocre starting hand that would be folded unsuited by a extremely tight player, and played often by a loose player because of the high ranked King.
