Image brightness from a projector is normally measured in ANSI
lumens. Lumens is a brightness measurement and ANSI lumens is a
method of standard brightness measurements for projected images.
The measurement is based on certain video levels and patterns and
helps to compare the outputs from different projectors.
Most manufacturers now quote an ANSI lumen figure although some
choose to quote a lumen level that may not be based on the ANSI
measurement system. The non ANSI levels will generally be a rather
higher figure so they do not offer a comparison with industry
standard measurements.
Apparent brightness is also dependent on the ambient light
falling on the screen as well as the contrast range of the image
itself. For these reasons, don't let the brightness rating
influence a choice of model without taking other factors into
account.
