Antaragni is the cultural festival of IIT Kanpur, held annually in October/November, and is one of the most popular college festivals in India [1]. The festival lasts for four days, and attracts participation from all the major colleges of India[2].[3]
The festival draws the best talents of North India to its competitions, covering areas ranging from music and drama to literary games and quizzing. There are several events focused on building social responsibility amongst the youth.[4] Professional Shows and workshops by various groups and prodigies from all over the world are an added attraction.[5] Since 2009, a limit of 15,000 participants have been placed to maintain the quality of competitions and of hospitality provided.

Etymology
Devanagari: अन्तराग्नि
Antarāgni (Hindi Antar: Within, Agni: Fire) stands for 'The Fire Within'.
History
Antaragni '07
The professional shows by The Poets of the Fall and Atif Aslam were huge crowd pullers.
Antaragni '08
This Antaragni was well-known due the performance by the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Farhan Akthar. Synchronicity brought the Irish band Glyder.
Antaragni '09
Antaragni '09 will be held from 22 to 25 October 2009.
IIT Kanpur completes 50 Years of its journey of brilliance in 2009 and thus as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration, this Antaragni is deemed to be better than ever. This time around 'Jaded Suns' will be holding a concert.[6] Blitzkrieg (the professional nite) shall be graced by the renowned singer KK. Two Fusion Bands - Advaita and Sitar Funk shall be performing on the Opening Nite (Prima Nocte).
Events[7]
India Inspired is the forum where the politically minded discuss the issues concerning the nation. This stage has seen many eminent politicians, leaders and media persons.[8] Fashion competitions and workshops are held under Ritambhara. Synchronicity is the banner of all Rock events. Professional rock concerts and amateur rock competitions are held.
Competitions
Competitions in dance, dramatics, fine arts, film & photography and musicals are conducted. There is also debates, word games and writing contests in English and Hindi. Many quizzes are held by professional quizmasters.
Workshops and Talks
Workshops, talks and exhibitions are held by experts in various fields.
Professional Shows
Popular bands and musicians perform under the banner of Blitzkrieg. India Haat is the showcase of various Indian performing arts. Kavi Samelan stages legends in the field of poetry. Shows are also held on the opening night.
Hospitality
IIT Kanpur is known for its hospitality. Full accommodation, meals and other services are provided for every participating member. A team of more than a hundred students work in this cell.
Championship
Apart from the prizes given in every event, there are eight trophies under various competition heads and the prestigious overall cultural champions trophy.[9]
Organisation
The festival is organised by the students. The festival chairman is the only faculty member of the team. Organisation is structured into two levels. The core team consists of festival co-ordinators, heads of competitions, events, finance, marketing and public relations. Each category of competition is managed by co-ordinators with help of secretaries (secys) and volunteers (volleys). Other auxiliary units such as public relations are managed by executives with the help of secretaries and volunteers.
Commercial oppurtunities
The festivals has attracted sponsorships from various corporations due to large number of students form all over India. Lots of alumni also visit the institute at this time.
