Review

Considered a landmark recording in some circles, this was constructed as a concept album of sorts. The suite-like flow of Renaissance-period material (sung by Shirley) was linked by instrumental passages. Dolly Collins' intricate arrangements, executed with the help of David Murrow of the Early Music Consort, displayed her virtuosity on pipe organ. The duo's next album, Love, Death & the Lady (1970), was equally noteworthy; Anthems in Eden is only recommended as the first purchase because it is regarded by the folk community as a pivotal release. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
