The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry. Among its awareness-raising initiatives are educational programs for high school and college students and juvenile intervention community programs. The ADL advocates for Israel, fights hate crimes and hate groups, forms interfaith groups, promotes civil rights for all people, and works with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to combat anti-Semitism in Europe. It also works with the Vatican to strengthen Catholic-Jewish relations. The ADL operates a network of about 30 offices in the US and abroad. Chicago lawyer Sigmund Livingston founded the organization in 1913.
