Area code 705

Area code 705 include most of northeastern and central Ontario. The 705 code was created in 1957 when it split from portions of 613 and 519. Area code 807 was later split from area code 705 in early 1962.

The incumbent local exchange carriers in 705 are Bell Canada, Northern Telephone, Ontera, and some municipally-owned carriers.

In 2009, after considering several split and overlay options, area code 249 was approved by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to be implemented as an overlay to area code 705,^[1] beginning in March 2011.
