Cumbia Villera is a form of cumbia music born out of the Argentine shantytowns around Buenos Aires. It is an amalgamation of the cumbia dance and music variations of the many immigrants who moved to the Argentine shantytowns starting in the 1930s. The style became more widespread and popularized in the 1990s.
