The name derives from Arsinoe an Egyptian queen of Ptolemeic descend whose palace was close to the discovery place of the skeleton. The animal had a resemblance to rhinoceros and was 1.8 meters high at the shoulder and 3 meters long. Remnants of earlier relatives have been found in south east Europe, Mongolia and recently in Ethiopia [2003]. The age of the remnants has been estimated to be 27 million years old
